Reading the table honestly

Three of these sellers charge by the hour or by the minute of finished video. That matters more than it looks. A reel is roughly 20 to 30 seconds long, so ₹1,500 a minute is about ₹625 for a 25 second reel if the editor is quick and quite a lot more if they are not. An hourly rate is worse to plan around, because you are buying the editor’s time rather than a finished thing, and a fussy set of clips takes longer than a clean one. Ask for a per reel number before you agree to anything billed by the hour.

The Fiverr spread is the widest on the page, from ₹502 to ₹14,552 in the same category on the same day. The cheap end is usually a template with your clips dropped into it. The expensive end is usually a seller who also writes the script and sources the music. Both are honest prices for different jobs.

Retainers are not really about the editing

A retainer buys availability. You are paying an editor to keep room in their week for you, which is why the monthly number rarely divides neatly into the per reel number. It is the right purchase if you need someone who knows your brand, will sit on a call, and can be told to change direction halfway through a month.

It is the wrong purchase if what you actually need is a finished cut from clips you already have. Most people who search for this are in the second group and do not know it yet. If you post eight times a month and each post is footage you shot on your phone, you are buying a fixed number of cuts, not a person’s calendar. Buying credits and using them when you have something to post is the cheaper shape of the same thing, and there is no month where you paid for nothing.

Whether you are paying for the shoot. The ₹20,000 to ₹60,000 agency figure covers a crew, a location and a day of somebody’s life. If you shot the footage yourself on a phone, none of that is your cost. Make sure the quote you are comparing is post production only.

Experience. The same published rate card puts a junior editor at ₹2,000 a video and a senior at up to ₹1,00,000. Some of that difference is real skill at pacing and sound. Some of it is the seniority of the clients they usually work for.

Revisions. This is the one people forget, and it is the one that decides what a reel really costs. A ₹1,500 quote with one revision included can end up more expensive than a ₹3,000 quote with five, because the third round is where a reel usually becomes good. Ask the number before you pay, not after.

Extras. Motion graphics, animated captions, colour grading and licensed music are each priced separately by most sellers. A quote that looks cheap often has these sitting outside it.

There is one more thing that is not on any rate card: the cost of explaining what you want. A reel is hard to describe in words, and the rounds spent getting a stranger to see the thing in your head are usually the slowest part of the job. That is the problem pointing at a reference reel solves, whoever you hire.

The reason the number is ₹99 and not ₹2,000 is that a director engine does the cutting. You send the clips, and optionally paste a public Instagram reel or YouTube Shorts link you want yours to feel like. The engine reads every clip, works out what is in each one, builds the cut beat by beat against your reference, and emails you the reel. There is no hourly meter, because no hours are being sold.

What you get is the same list a freelancer would quote you: a vertical reel at full quality, no watermark, a music track if you want a particular one, and changes until it is right, up to 10 of them. What you do not get is a person to sit on a call with. If your reel needs a strategist, hire one. If it needs cutting, this is the cheaper way to do it.

Prices in India are ₹99 for one reel, ₹499 for six and ₹999 for fifteen, which is ₹67 a reel. Outside India the same reels are priced in dollars. Payments are handled by Dodo Payments. Source clips are deleted 7 days after upload and finished reels 30 days after delivery.

The fair comparison is not ₹99 against ₹2,000. It is ₹99 against ₹2,000 plus the evening you would spend briefing someone. You can see the clips that went in and the reels that came back before you decide whether it is any good.

1. Shoot vertical and hold each shot longer than feels natural. An editor cannot use a shot that ends the moment it gets good. Four or five seconds of steady footage gives anyone something to cut into.
2. Send a reference instead of a paragraph. Paste the link to a reel whose pacing you want. It removes a whole round of guessing, and rounds are what you are paying for.
3. Send the files at full quality. Footage sent through WhatsApp as a photo is compressed hard and no editor can put the detail back. Send clips as a document instead.
4. Buy in a pack if you post regularly. Per reel pricing falls from ₹99 to ₹67 a reel at fifteen, and unlike a retainer there is no month where the credits expire unused.
5. Get the revision count in writing. Whoever you hire. It is the single line that decides what the reel actually costs you.
